Olivia Herstein is a journalist by training, and prior to joining the Board of Rabbis of Southern California was most recently Senior Managing Editor at Mpls.St.Paul Magazine and Communications Director/Webmaster for the Jewish Federations in the Twin Cities.
Her experience includes communications and publishing positions at the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and United Jewish Fund & Council of St. Paul, as well as online and social media writing and editing, magazine editing, and custom publishing. In addition, she has worked as a daily beat reporter - on politics, environment, science, arts, and education - for the Orange County Register, Jerusalem Post, Chicago Tribune, and Twin Cities Jewish Life.
As Program Director, Olivia administers the Board of Rabbis/Jewish Federation chaplaincy programs, and plans, implements and publicizes trans-denominational projects for synagogues and the Jewish community, as well as workshops for professional growth and development for the rabbinic community. Along with the rest of the Board of Rabbis staff, she provides partnership support, and Jewish-content information and referral services for staff and departments of the Federation and its affiliated agencies.
A California native, Olivia received both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University. She has also studied at the Pardes Institute of Judaic Studies in Jerusalem. Her husband is a Judaic Studies teacher at Milken Community Middle School, and they have two young daughters.
